Fisherman Cyril, is in honour of Cyril Whitten, a Petty Harbour inshore fisherman all his life. Cyril, Marguerite’s oldest brother was the first Mayor of Petty Harbour and was also recognized as a leader by his fellow fishermen. Our Fisherman Cyril Mummer with a fish in his hand represents those who make their living on the sea and those who enjoy the sport of fishing. Cyril Whitten, who always enjoyed a kitchen party, could play the spoons and loved to sing ballads. We think that Fisherman Cyril is the Mummer “with his rubber boots on the wrong feet” in The Mummer’s Song (1983) by Simani.
