Made in NL, the Mummer’s body frame, the clothing, the accordion and the base are all hand crafted by NL artisan Jackie.
The accordion held by our Mummer is one of the most popular instruments of Newfoundland traditional music. The button accordion found in many Newfoundland homes was used to play hymns as well as jigs and reels. The accordion in the photo was played during numerous visits by the Mummers.
Our Mummer wears the traditional “facecloth”, that is a piece of curtain or drapery, a pillow slip or flour sack. The stocking cap, matching cuffs and jumper or guernsey are similar to the traditional wool knit caps, mitts and sweaters, worn by Petty Harbour fishermen.
