One-of-a-kind, handmade polymer clay hanging mummers by Dawn’s Creations, a NL.artisan.
Inspired by the age old tradition of “mummering” these fun characters reflect the mummers’ practice of covering their faces with a flour sack or pillow-slip and “rigging-up” in clothes belonging to someone else to conceal their identities. Part of the fun is guessing who is under the outlandish costumes. When correctly identified, the Mummers remove their face covering.
This collection are holding a Petty Harbour sign, an accordion or an ugly stick. Mummers frequently carried a musical instrument to entertain those who welcomed them into their homes. The ugly stick is a traditional Newfoundland homemade musical instrument.
Dimensions: approximately 3 x 8 cms.
